Meetings of your neighborhood organization and City councils and committees are presented in an easy-to-read format, with agenda items that support tagging and public commenting. Get a quick vote summary or set a reminder to attend the meeting.
Crime wave? Lost cat? Send a notification to all of your neighbors with accounts on OpenMinneapolis and they’ll receive it based on their settings, either online, via e-mail, text message or Twitter.
As a platform for open and honest communication, OpenMinneapolis.org will be home to public discussions with your elected officials. Let them know how you feel and find out where they stand on hot issues. If they don’t answer your question, everyone will know it.
Get beyond campaign promises with actual data, such as when your City Council Member attends neighborhood meetings and how they vote on issues that matter to you.
Have a discussion with your block, neighborhood or the entire city in the OpenMinneapolis.org Forums. Link to an agenda item at your neighborhood meeting, and anyone reading that agenda item will know how you feel about the issue.
If you’re a journalist, researcher or developer, any data OpenMinneapolis.org uses is exportable via XML. That means you’ll be able to make your own datasets, report on factual information and uncover stories faster.
OpenMinneapolis.org is a project of CivicEquity, a non-profit organization founded in 2009. The goal of OpenMinneapolis.org is to open municipal government, encourage clean and information-based elections, track issues and inspire community engagement and public participation in Minneapolis.
We're developing OpenMinneapolis.org on a geographically agnostic platform, which will be released as open source upon final launch for any non-commercial use.
OpenMinneapolis.org will be launching in 2010, with an exact date to be announced soon. As the site continues to be developed, we'll send out e-mail newsletters, update Twitter and post on Facebook.
Any help is more than appreciated! We’re currently looking for people interested in policy work, web development, legal expertise and data acquisition. We’re also seeking equipment to help facilitate the goals of the site and as CivicEquity moves forward with applying for tax-exempt status, we’re seeking grant funding and individual contributions.
We'll keep you updated on the site's progress, and will keep your e-mail address private.
